Congratulations to Pepe Shirlaw MBE

The LDC Confederation was delighted to hear that Pepe Shirlaw was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list with an MBE for her contributions to dentistry. In addition to her significant role at a national level, Pepe has played an extremely important role at the London regional level too.

Pepe has been Chair of London’s Local Dental Network since its inception. In this role she has been a tireless advocate for collaboration and open and transparent discussion, playing a key role in bringing all stakeholders together to tackle the issues facing dentistry in London. As Chair of the LDN Pepe has also led on the development of the Managed Clinical Networks and overseen the accreditation for tier 2 performance.

Since qualifying in Birmingham in 1980 Pepe has held a number of roles including:

  • Clinical Director of Dental Services at Guy’s & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust
  • Elected Board member and former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery Royal College of Surgeons
  • Past President of British & Irish Society for Oral Medicine (BISOM)
  • Past Chair of the Association of Dental Hospitals

Pepe Shirlaw MBE said, “I’m truly honoured to be recognised for my work in this fantastic sector. I have been very fortunate throughout my career to work with many wonderful people in dentistry and beyond. I would not have been able to achieve half of what I have without dedicated colleagues and friends.”
