“Let’s quit smoking together this Stoptober”
Stoptober, the Department of Health and Social Care’s annual stop smoking campaign, is back this year. Once again, Healthy Hounslow has localised the campaign to make it relevant for anyone who lives, works, studies, or has a GP in Hounslow.
The campaign aims to encourage the 37,000+ smokers in Hounslow to give quitting a go – with free, expert support from the Healthy Hounslow service.
Residents who take part and quit smoking with Healthy Hounslow can also earn up to £50 in BetterPoints as a reward.
To make it easy for local organisations, workplaces, and community groups to help spread the word, Healthy Hounslow has adapted the national Stoptober assets to ensure they are localised and relevant to Hounslow.
How you can support Stoptober
Whether you’re a GP, NHS Trust, charity, service provider or employer, there are lots of opportunities to support Stoptober.
- Attend Healthy Hounslow’s Very Brief Advice (VBA) training to gain confidence in having impactful conversations with residents about quitting smoking. The next session is on 25 September; sign up here.
- Use campaign assets online. Share Healthy Hounslow’s localised assets (attached) or the DHSC’s Stoptober assets on your social media and websites. Signpost to Healthy Hounslow for support: https://healthyhounslow.co.uk/stop-smoking-stoptober/ .
- Print and display materials. Stoptober posters and leaflets can be ordered from DHSC’s Campaign Resource webpage. For Healthy Hounslow leaflets, contact Annah at annah.kelly@more-life.co.uk.
- Use the digital screen asset in your places of work/waiting areas.
- Organise or attend community outreach activities – you are welcome to join Healthy Hounslow, please see a timetable of where they will be located below.
- Share the campaign information and resources with anyone who has regular contact with smokers and encourage them to refer smokers to Healthy Hounslow.
While Stoptober officially starts on 1 October, we encourage you to start raising awareness of the campaign and encouraging smokers to prepare for their quit attempt around two weeks in advance (i.e. from 15 September).
