Get to Know your LDC Director – Harmail Bassi

Tell us a little about yourself

I qualified from King’s College Hospital in 1996. I have always lived/studied/worked in SE London and Kent.

How did you first get involved in the LDC?

Since working locally in SE London, as an FD I attended meetings with my FD trainer, and met like-minded GDPs providing NHS dentistry.

What has been a highlight for you so far of being involved in your LDC?

The main highlight has been a continuous one – engagement with colleagues and key stakeholders. Feeling like we are breaking down the barriers and making a real difference to practitioners.

What skills have you developed as a result of your involvement with the LDC?

A better understanding of the NHS system and how to represent my fellow NHS GDPs.

How do you see yourself applying the skills you’ve developed at your LDC in your wider life and career?

It has helped me to interact with relevant stakeholders and parties involved in NHS dentistry.

What would you say to colleagues who are interested but hesitant to get involved in the LDC?

If you want your voice and opinions heard, please get involved rather than be on the sidelines.

If LDCs didn’t exist what would that mean for the profession?

There would be no voice for GDPs to express their opinions on NHS dentistry collectively.

What do you do to relax outside of dentistry?

Reading, watching movies/TV, listening to music.
