Get to Know your LDC Director – Anthony Bendkowski

Tell us a little about yourself

I am a specialist in oral surgery, in practice limited to implant reconstructive surgery in London and the South East of England.
I qualified from University College Hospital Dental School, London in 1982 and subsequently gained extensive experience in both hospital and practice-based oral surgery. I have over 30 years’ experience in both the surgical and restorative management of implant cases. I have a keen interest in all aspects of dental education and has lectured on and run bone augmentation and implant training courses, as well as lecturing nationally and internationally.
I am a Past President of the Association of Dental Implantology (UK) and an examiner for the Edinburgh Diploma in Implant Dentistry.

How did you first get involved in the LDC?

Anthony Bendkowski

My introduction was as an active committee member of the Lewisham Lambeth and Southwark LDC , shortly after establishing my first practice in Southeast London over 30 years ago. I have maintained active participation in the LDCs within Southeast London ever since.

What has been a highlight for you so far of being involved in your LDC?

Beyond doubt it is the sense of community and shared experience with colleagues on the committee.

What skills have you developed as a result of your involvement with the LDC?

To be able to represent the interests of NHS practitioners in our area and to negotiate with NHS London.

How do you see yourself applying the skills you’ve developed at your LDC in your wider life and career?

The ability to more actively listen and consider everyone’s point of view before deciding upon my own opinions.

What would you say to colleagues who are interested but hesitant to get involved in the LDC?

The sense of community which you will benefit from will transform how you feel about your day-to-day work.

If LDCs didn’t exist what would that mean for the profession?

We would be working as individuals without unity in our discussions with NHS London.

What do you do to relax outside of dentistry?

I have a pilots license and own a few aircraft which I fly and display at airshows. I also play lead guitar, badly, in an amateur local band.
